The two most common ways that an affiliate can market their products online are by article marketing, also known as the burn marketing method.  And the pay-per-click method would be the second method that can help you market your product.

Burn Marketing Method

Article marketing is the process of writing multiple articles that utilize relevant keywords and phrases to do the advertising for the affiliate.  All of the major search engines scan all the available information on the web and calculate a rank for their search engine results.  Your article could rank high on any of the search engine results if it is relevant to your product and used keywords that your consumer would use for a search.  Consumers would type in a search and the affiliates article will rank somewhere in the search results.  The consumer will then read the article click on the back link to your page for more information.  If all goes well, a transaction will happen.

Pay-Per-Click Method

The second method is the pay-per-click method.  And it is exactly as it sounds.  The affiliate will pay for every time his advertisement is clicked on any of the major search engines.  The online marketer need to make sure the advertisement is catchy to draw in the consumer, and that it also uses relevant keywords and phrases that the consumer would use in a search.  Affiliates should run a pay-per-click campaign on a daily budget in order to make sure they are not burning through their cash right away.  Affiliates should also be ready to adjust their campaigns if they see that they are paying for a lot of clicks but making very little sales.  This is a sign that the relevance and the keywords may need to be adjusted to try and attract the consumer that is ready to buy.
